DIAGNOdent® Laser for Early Detection

By catching tooth decay and damage in its early stages, Dr. Pope can take a proactive role in your dental health. One tool that helps is the DIAGNOdent® laser, which detects decay and damage that is deep in the cracks and crevices in your teeth. This laser technology allows Dr. Pope to find the decay long before it might be visible to the naked eye. By treating the decay at this early stage, Dr. Pope can minimize future pain, discomfort, and tooth damage that might occur if the decay was left unchecked.

Intraoral Camera

The use of an intraoral camera at Pope Dental in Walnut Creek gives you and Dr. Pope a better look at your dental health. This dental technology makes cavities, gum disease, and other oral problems easier to see. By using this tiny device to accurately snap detailed photographs of areas to be treated, Dr. Pope can better explain your dental problems to you, and can make you an active participant in deciding on the best treatment option.

Computer Digital Imaging

You may be considering getting porcelain veneers, teeth whitening, or Invisalign® aligners, but the cost and time commitment leaves you wondering if the results will be worth it. By using computer digital imaging, Dr. Pope can give you a sneak peek at your cosmetic dentistry results  before you even start treatment. We are proud to offer digital imaging to you at our San Francisco Bay Area dental practice, since this technology allows you to make informed decisions about potential cosmetic dentistry treatments. Schedule a cosmetic dentistry consultation with Dr. Pope to get a glimpse at your future smile!

Enamel Microabrasion

At Pope Dental in Walnut Creek, we understand that dental drills can create dental anxiety in some people. Even those who don't have an overwhelming fear of the drill typically don't like it either. Because of this, we use enamel microabrasion to treat decay whenever possible. During enamel microabrasion, a pressurized stream of aluminum oxide powder is directed onto your teeth, removing decay and fissures. Microabrasion is also painless – in fact, the majority of patients need no anesthesia!

High Power Magnification

At Pope Dental, we use high power magnification and fiber optic lighting for most of our procedures. This technology helps us to perform dentistry at a higher level of precision and accuracy by allowing us to more clearly see decay, damage to tooth structure, oral lesions, and other dental problems.

Soft Tissue Laser

The less pain experienced during a dental procedure, the better. By using a soft tissue laser, Dr. Pope is able to perform various cosmetic and restorative treatments while reducing the discomfort you feel.

A soft tissue laser can be used in:
  • Gingival recontouring and overgrowth issues
  • Frenum relief
  • Aphthous ulcer care
  • Biopsy and oral lesion removal
  • Treatment of infections, hemostasis and periodontal debridement

Most procedures are completely painless both during and after treatment. There is no bleeding associated with the laser and no need for any sutures after performing a frenectomy, biopsy, or removal of an oral lesion.

Digital Radiographic Imaging

To provide you with an improved dental care experience, we incorporated digital radiographic imaging into our practice to replace the use of traditional dental x-rays. Digital radiography has many advantages over traditional x-ray technology for both doctor and patient, including:
  • Reduced x-ray dose
  • Better disease detection
  • Better quality control of images
  • Improved patient education capability
  • Ease of attachment to electronic insurance claims submissions
  • Less environmental impact on the local community
  • Improved archival quality of image

VisiLite Plus for Oral Cancer Screening

All adults are at risk for oral cancer, including you. In fact, 24 percent of oral cancers occur in people who don't smoke and do not have other typical risk factors. With early detection, oral cancer is 90 percent curable, allowing you to live a healthy life.

To help with early detection, Dr. Pope has added the use of VisiLite Plus, an oral lesion identification and marking system, to his conventional visual examination. VisiLite Plus is the only medical device cleared by the FDA for the screening of patients at increased risk for oral cancer. We utilize VisiLite Plus as part of your annual exam for a higher standard of care.

The Onset System

It is with great enthusiasm that we announce a giant leap in the world of dental anesthesia…the pain-free injection!  This revolutionary new product, Onset, is now available in our practice.

We know dental injections are a source of anxiety for many patients.  Using a patented, revolutionary device, we are now able to combine, or ‘buffer’, the anesthetic with sodium bicarbonate.  This buffered anesthetic eliminates the common “bee-sting”, resulting in a pain-free injection!

In addition, the anesthetic becomes active immediately, resulting in shorter visits!

Your comfort has been and always will be our first priority.  Experience Onset for yourself, and if you have family members or friends who may have been putting off needed dental care due to anxiety about receiving an injection, please share this exciting news with them- they will thank you for it!

Oraverse

After having dental work done with local anesthetic, talk, smile and drink normally in about half the time with Oraverse.  We now provide the first and only local anesthesia reversal agent that accelerates a return to normal sensation and function.  Get the feeling back twice as fast!  Ask us about Oraverse.
